Pasado Simple (Past Simple)

Pasado Simple (Past Simple)
FORMA
[VERBO + ed] o verbos irregulares
En preguntas y negativos usamos el verbo auxiliar: "DID", "DID NOT" o "DIDN'T".
Después de "DID", "DID NOT" o "DIDN'T" el verbo principal se queda en el infinitivo (No "ed")
Ejemplos:
  • You called me. (Affirmativo)
  • Did you call me? (Pregunta) (No Did you called me?)
  • You did not call me. (Negativo) (No You did not called me.)
USO 1: Acción Completado En el pasado

Usar el pasado simple para decir que una acción empezó y terminó en un momento del pasado. A veces, el locutor puede no decir el momento exacto, pero sí tiene un momento dado en mente.
Ejemplos:
  • I saw a Sam yesterday.
  • I didn't see Sue yesterday.
  • Last month, I traveled to Canada.
  • Last year, I didn't go to Hawaii.
  • Did you have lunch yesterday?
  • She washed her hair.
  • He didn't fix his car.

USO 2: Una Serie de Acciones Completados

Usamos el Pasado Simple para hacer una lista de una serie de Acciones en el pasado. Estos Acciones suceden uno tras otro.
Ejemplos:
  • I studied, walked to the pool, and went for a swim.
  • He arrived at the airport at 8:00, checked into his flight at 9:00, and the plane took off at 10:00.
  • Did you add flour; add the eggs, and then mix?

USO 3: Duración en el Pasado

El Pasado Simple se puede usar con un intervalo que empiece and termine in el pasado. Un intervalo es una acción más largo a menudo indicado por expresiones como: for two years, for five minutes, all day, all year, etc.
Ejemplos:
  • I lived in California for two years. (I don't live there now.)
  • Isabel studied English for two years.
  • They sat at the bar all day.
  • They did not stay at the party the whole time.
  • We talked on the phone for a long time.
  • A: Did you wait for them?
  • o B: Yes, we waited for one hour.

USO 4: Hábitos en el pasado

El Pasado Simple también se puede usar para describir una rutina que terminó en el pasado. Para destacar que estamos hablando de una rutina, frecuentemente añadimos expresiones como: always, often, usually, never, when I was a child, when I was younger, etc.
Ejemplos:
  • I studied French when I was at school.
  • He played the guitar every day.
  • He didn't play the piano.
  • Did you play a musical instrument when you were a kid?
  • She worked at the movie theater after school.
  • They never went to school, they always skipped class.

Ejemplos:
  • She was shy as a child, but now she is very outgoing.
  • He didn't like tomatoes before.
  • Did you live in Texas when you were a kid?
  • People paid much more to make cell phone calls in the past.
